Bangladesh Cricket Board to Investigate Jahanara Alam’s Harassment Allegations

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the formation of a special committee to investigate serious sexual harassment allegations made by former women’s team captain Jahanara Alam against former selectors and officials. The inquiry committee has been directed to submit its findings within 15 working days, ensuring a transparent and fair investigation process. So let’s know about BCB Jahanara Alam harassment case.

BCB Launches Internal Probe

According to the BCB’s official statement, the board has taken note of the allegations with deep concern. The statement read, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has noted with concern the allegations reported in the media made by a former member of the Bangladesh national women’s cricket team regarding alleged misconduct by certain individuals associated with the team. As the matter is sensitive, the BCB has decided to form a committee to investigate the allegations thoroughly.” The board reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all players and staff, emphasizing that any action will be taken strictly based on the committee’s recommendations.

Jahanara Alam’s Claims

In a recent interview, Jahanara Alam revealed distressing experiences during her time with the national team, alleging that a former selector and other officials acted inappropriately toward her. She claimed the incidents occurred between 2021 and 2022, including during the Women’s ODI World Cup. Jahanara stated that she had reported the issues to senior BCB officials, including then-director Shafiul Islam Nadel and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, but said that no permanent action was taken. She added that repeated indecent proposals and mistreatment affected her mental well-being, ultimately leading her to step away from international cricket.

BCB’s Response and Next Steps

Following the allegations, the BCB said that the committee’s findings would be crucial in determining appropriate disciplinary actions. The board has stressed that such cases will be handled with “utmost seriousness” to protect the integrity of Bangladesh cricket and its athletes. The investigation aims to ensure that women’s cricket in Bangladesh remains safe, transparent, and supportive for all players.

Jahanara’s Cricket Career

Jahanara Alam has been one of Bangladesh’s most recognized women cricketers, representing the nation in 135 white-ball matches, taking 48 ODI wickets and 60 T20I wickets. She also became the first Bangladeshi woman to feature in international leagues such as India’s Women’s T20 Challenge and the FairBreak Invitational T20. Currently residing in Australia, Jahanara said she decided to speak out to inspire change and ensure a safer environment for future players.
