BAN vs SA 1st Test Day 3 Stumps: Rain and Bad Light Played Spoilsport as Mehidy Hasan Stands Firm for Bangladesh

BAN vs SA 1st Test Day 3 Match Highlights Today

The third day of the 1st Test between Bangladesh and South Africa was heavily affected by poor weather conditions, with play being called off early due to bad light. Only 57.5 overs were bowled in the day, leaving the hosts with a slender lead and three wickets in hand. Let us look at BAN vs SA 1st Test Day 3 Match Highlights.

Resuming the day 101 runs behind, Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble early on. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, who was in fine form, continued his dominance with the ball, dismissing both Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim in quick succession. Rabada’s accuracy and pace proved too much for the Bangladeshi top order.

To compound Bangladesh’s problems, Keshav Maharaj joined the attack and sent Litton Das back to the pavilion outsmarting Litton and leaving Bangladesh in a dangerous position 112/6.

Bangladesh Rescue Act to Save the Test Match

With their team in dire straits, Mehidy Hasan and debutant Jaker Ali put on a brave fightback. Displaying immense composure, the pair formed a solid partnership, countering South Africa’s spin attack. Mehidy and Jaker played with discipline, capitalizing on the rare loose deliveries as the ball began to turn and grip off the surface.

Their partnership of 138 runs for the seventh wicket gave Bangladesh some much-needed breathing room. Jaker Ali, on his Test debut, brought up his maiden half-century, a notable milestone in what was a valiant display of grit. Unfortunately, just after reaching his fifty, Jaker was deceived by another clever delivery from Maharaj.

Weather Interruptions Play the Spoilsport

Following Jaker Ali’s dismissal, rain interrupted play, leading to an early tea break. After the weather cleared up momentarily, only five more overs were bowled before bad light forced the players off the field once again. With conditions failing to improve, the umpires eventually called off play for the day.

At stumps, Bangladesh managed a slender lead of 81 runs with three wickets in hand. Mehidy Hasan remains unbeaten, shouldering the responsibility of steering Bangladesh towards a competitive target.

Crucial Day Ahead for Bangladesh

Heading into Day 3, Bangladesh will be hoping to extend their lead beyond 150, which could make the contest interesting on a pitch offering assistance to the bowlers. However, with rain forecasted for the remaining days, the weather might play a deciding role in the outcome of the match.
