Despite winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opted for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to bat first. Punjab struggled to make a solid start to the innings, losing openers Shikhar Dhawan (8 off 11 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (14 off 11 balls) in quick succession to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan, respectively.

However, Jonny Bairstow teamed with Liam Livingstone but struggled to establish a crucial wicket-to-wicket partnership, coming up short after hitting 12 off 10 balls. Later Jitesh Sharma arrived at the crease and hammered a couple of boundaries before being caught at (11 off 8 balls) for the swift Umran Malik.

Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan made every attempt to form the much-needed partnership to set a challenging objective for SRH but fell short when Shahrukh Khan became the first victim of veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar after hitting 26 off 28 balls. And Buvi’s picked his second victim, well-established batsman and top scorer of the innings Livingstone (60 off 33 balls), which placed Punjab in a tough spot.
