Rajasthan Royals IPL 2026 Sale Rumours: Are RR Really Up for Sale?
The IPL could be heading toward its biggest ownership reshuffle in over a decade. After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) publicly signaled their intention to sell, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have now reportedly joined the list of teams exploring a change in ownership ahead of IPL 2026. So let’s know about Rajasthan Royals IPL 2026 Sale Rumours.
The latest development came through a social media post by Harsh Goenka, brother of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka, adding fuel to the speculation.
RR Potentially Entering the Market Before IPL 2026
Rajasthan Royals’ ownership is currently led by Royals Sports Group (Emerging Media Sporting Holdings Limited), which controls a majority 65% stake. Other prominent minority shareholders include Lachlan Murdoch (13%) and RedBird Capital (15%).
RR’s ownership journey has seen its share of turbulence, especially after the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, which resulted in a two-year suspension. Bollywood personalities Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, who owned around 12%, had to exit post the scandal.
The new buzz follows Harsh Goenka’s post on X (formerly Twitter):
“I hear not one, but two IPL teams are now up for sale — RCB and RR. It seems clear that people want to cash in on the high valuations today. So two teams for sale and 4-5 possible buyers! Who will be the successful buyers—Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, or USA?”
This statement has intensified discussions across the cricketing world.
RCB Already in Advanced Stages of Ownership Change
While RR have not officially confirmed their sale plans, RCB’s situation is transparent and well underway.
Diageo, the parent company, is eyeing a USD 2 billion sale, with a potential completion target of March 2026.
RCB’s franchise valuation skyrocketed after their maiden IPL title win in 2025, attracting high-profile interest from:
-
Adar Poonawalla (Serum Institute)
-
Nikhil Kamath (Zerodha)
-
Mohandas Pai
-
Hombale Films (considered a leading contender)
If RR officially joins the bidding arena, the 2026 IPL season could witness record-breaking acquisition numbers.
RR Considering Relocation Amid Internal Turmoil
Reports also suggest that RR are evaluating major structural changes, including shifting their home base away from Jaipur due to ongoing friction with the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
Potential new home venue for IPL 2026:
-
MCA Stadium, Pune
Interestingly, RCB too have explored Pune as a temporary home due to uncertainties around the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium availability for next season.
A Landmark IPL Ownership Shake-Up on the Horizon?
If both RCB and RR go through with ownership transfers, IPL could be headed for its most significant restructuring since the league expanded in 2022.
With rising franchise valuations, increased global interest, and major investors circling, the IPL’s financial landscape is poised for a dramatic transformation.
