IPL rules after captains’ meet: Saliva ban scrapped, what about impact player rule?

What are IPL 2025 rules after captains meet?

As the highly anticipated Indian Premier League 2025 gears up for action, the Board of Control for Cricket in India recently convened a crucial meeting with team captains and referees at its Mumbai headquarters. The agenda? Major rule revisions that could shake up the upcoming season. So let’s look at the What are IPL 2025 rules after captains meet.

One of the standout decisions is the lifting of the saliva ban, a regulation originally enforced due to COVID-19 protocols.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) first introduced the saliva ban as a COVID-19 precautionary measure, and the IPL swiftly followed the rule by enforcing the restriction.

However, the ban has been officially lifted in IPL, allowing bowlers to once again use saliva to shine the ball—a technique long regarded as essential for generating swing.

This decision comes after strong support from players like Mohammed Shami, who openly demanded for its return, with Tim Southee also backing the move.

“We keep appealing that we should be allowed to use saliva so that we can bring reverse swing back into the game and it becomes interesting.” said Shami after India’s win over Australia in semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy recently.

New rule: Two balls in the second Innings!

To counteract the dew factor in night matches, the BCCI has introduced a significant change—teams will now get a fresh ball in the second innings after the 11th over of the evening matches.

The on-field umpires will have the final say on whether a ball change is necessary, depending on the dew levels. This move aims to level the playing field and reduce the impact of the toss on match outcomes.

Impact player rule stays!

Despite speculation about its removal, the Impact Player rule remains firmly in place for IPL 2025. Contrary to reports suggesting otherwise, the BCCI made no move to scrap it. This means teams will continue to have the strategic advantage of substituting a player mid-game, keeping the tournament as dynamic as ever.

With these rule changes, IPL 2025 promises to be an electrifying season, blending tradition with modern innovations. Fans can expect more strategic battles, thrilling encounters, and possibly a few unexpected twists!
