Mumbai Indians Report Card for IPL 2025
The Mumbai Indians, five-time champions and one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, came into the 2025 season with a strong squad and high expectations. So Let’s take a look at Mumbai Indians Report Card for IPL 2025.
Under pressure to reclaim their former dominance, MI had a rollercoaster campaign that saw moments of brilliance, key individual performances, but ultimately a familiar stumble in the playoffs.
Despite finishing fourth on the points table with 16 points from 14 matches, MI’s journey came to an end in the Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings, dashing hopes of a sixth title.
Group stage: Consistency with flashes of brilliance
Mumbai began the season with two early losses, and won just one after their first five game, but quickly bounced back and secured six consecutive wins, including commanding wins against teams like Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals, the latter being a crushing 100-run victory.
With a healthy net run rate of +1.142, MI proved they could dominate on their day. However, inconsistencies in the middle overs and failure to close out tight games led to unnecessary losses, keeping them from securing a top-two finish.
Star performers: Suryakumar and Bumrah shine bright
Suryakumar Yadav was undoubtedly MI’s standout performer in 2025. He amassed 717 runs in 16 innings at an average of 65.18 and a staggering strike rate of 167.92, including five fifties. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton also made crucial contributions, with 418 and 388 runs respectively.
On the bowling front, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah led the charge. Boult picked up 22 wickets, while Bumrah was back to his best, scalping 18 wickets at an economy of just 6.68.
Hardik Pandya chipped in with 14 wickets and a five-wicket haul, but his economy rate of 9.77 raised eyebrows.
Playoffs exit
After winning the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans, they failed to overcome Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2, losing by five wickets. The inability to maintain composure under pressure continues to haunt them in the knockout stages.
IPL 2025 MI’s season rating: 3.5/5
A solid campaign but not up to MI’s championship standards. A few tactical missteps and over-reliance on key players held them back from going all the way.
