Batting first, LSG put up a commanding 203/8 in their 20 overs, thanks to a blistering 60 off 31 from Mitchell Marsh and a steady 53 from Aiden Markram. The duo laid a strong foundation with a 76-run stand, capitalizing on a powerplay that yielded 64 runs.

A late cameo from David Miller (27 off 14) kept the scoreboard ticking, while MI skipper Hardik Pandya stood out with the ball, claiming an impressive 5-wicket haul (4-0-36-5), including key scalps of Markram, Pooran, Pant, Miller, and Akash Deep.

In reply, Mumbai Indians started aggressively with Ryan Rickelton scoring at a brisk pace, but early wickets put them on the back foot. Naman Dhir played a sparkling 46 off 24, and Suryakumar Yadav looked set to take MI home with a classy 67 off 43.

Tilak Varma’s slow knock the reason behind MI’s defeat against LSG?

However, the innings lost momentum during the middle overs, particularly with Tilak Varma’s cautious knock of 25 off 23, which increased the required rate.

Even with captain Hardik Pandya (28* off 16) fighting till the end, MI couldn’t recover the ground lost during the middle stretch. Digvesh Rathi bowled economically (4-0-21-1), helping LSG maintain control at the death.

This result helps Lucknow Super Giants claim their second win of the season, while Mumbai Indians’ campaign faces more questions—particularly around pacing their chase and middle-order strategy. This was MI’s third loss after four games.
