International call-ups trigger key IPL 2025 replacements for MI and PBKS

IPL 2025 replacements for MI and PBKS News and Updates

As the Indian Premier League 2025 enters its decisive playoff stage, teams are making crucial last-minute adjustments to reinforce their squads amid international player withdrawals. We look at IPL 2025 replacements for MI and PBKS.

One of the most notable developments comes from the Mumbai Indians camp, who are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign England’s Jonny Bairstow and pacer Richard Gleeson as temporary replacements for Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton.

Both players are expected to miss the knockout fixtures due to international duties with England and South Africa, respectively.

Will Jacks, who has delivered a strong all-round performance this season with 195 runs and five wickets across 11 games, will be unavailable due to his selection in England’s ODI squad for the West Indies series.

Ryan Rickelton, MI’s second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025 with 336 runs, is set to depart after the group stage following a directive from Cricket South Africa. His departure also leaves a void in the wicketkeeping department.

Jonny Bairstow, with a wealth of IPL experience from stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, appears to be an ideal fit. His record includes two centuries and an impressive average of 34.54 at a strike rate of 144.45. Additionally, his capability behind the stumps offers MI a seamless replacement for Rickelton.

On the bowling front, Richard Gleeson, who made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2024, is being lined up to bolster MI’s pace arsenal.

Mumbai Indians are fourth on the points table and a win in their remaining two games, can keep their playoffs hopes alive.

Kyle Jamieson in place of Lockie Ferguson in Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have also made a strategic replacement, bringing in New Zealand quick Kyle Jamieson to replace the injured Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson, who took five wickets in four matches before sustaining a hamstring injury, will miss the remainder of the season.

Jamieson, no stranger to IPL pressure, was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2021 and brings both pace and lower-order batting to PBKS.

Punjab Kings are third on the points standings with 15 points, however they have still to play three league matches. One win will lift them to 17 points, which will be enough to secure their playoff spot; however, two wins will help them finish in the top two.
