IND Vs ENG 5th Test, Day 3: India extend lead to 257 against England

India vs England 5th Test Day 3 Match Highlights:

By the end of the third day India extended their lead up to 257, with Cheteshwar Pujara’s solid half-century leading India to 125 for three at Edgbaston.

However, the visitors lost their both openers and ex-skipper Virat Kohli in the target setting second innings, but still India have plenty of batting left to set a big target. The reliable Pujara and the first innings hero Pant will the start the proceedings for India on day.

Earlier, India was summoned to bat by England earlier after they won the toss. And the hosts have proved their decision right by removing five Indian batter under 100.

In the absence of team India’s designated openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara were chosen to handle the opening job. However, they failed to do so and were quickly dismissed. Pujara left the pavilion after scoring just 13, while Gill scored 17.

Hanuma Vihari got off to a promising start but was unable to turn his 20-run knock into a significant one. The most experienced [layer in the Indian side Virat Kohli was unfortunate to be bowled on ball he attempted to leave but that caught the edge of the bat and smashed the stumps. Shreyas Iyer, who started his innings with three fours in the style of a T-20, walked back with only a 15-run total.

Rishabh Pant – Ravindra Jadeja did wonders for India 

In the testing times, Rishabh Pant and the renowned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took responsibility and helped India pass the 300-mark.

Rishabh played a superb knock of 146 off 111 before walking back to the pavilion. Jadeja woo walked back after a brilliant hundred. However then skipper Bumrah took over and scored 35 runs off Broad’s over. Siraj was the last man to dismiss for India as the visitors put 416 on board in their first innings.

In response, England faced a difficult task as Captain Jasprit Bumrah tested them with the ball and dismissed three key England batters to put the hosts on back foot.

England started their day three campaign from 94 for 5 with skipper Ben Stokes and batter Jonny Bairstow. Both batters followed their aggressive approach of play but the skipper couldn’t manage to play a long innings. After scoring 25 he walked back to pavilion. While Jonny Bairstow stand tall in the England’s fight back. He recorded a solid century in pressure to help England reach a respectable total.

The hosts posted 284 in the first innings to hand India a 132-run lead. While India are now having a run 257 lead after scoring 125 for 3, thanks to Pujara’s half century.
