WI-W vs NZ-W Highlights 2nd Semifinal of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

New Zealand women defeated West Indies by eight runs in the second semifinal of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday and advanced to the finals. Let’s look at WI-W vs NZ-W Highlights 2nd Semifinal.

The Sophie Devine-led New Zealand posted a decent total while batting first, and later their bowlers stole the show, as New Zealand now prepare to face South Africa in the final clash on Sunday.  

South Africa reached the finals of the marquee event last year but failed to win. While New Zealand will also look to secure their maiden T20 World Cup title.  

WI-W vs NZ-W Highlights 2nd Semifinal of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup  

Opted to bat, New Zealand started off on a decent note, as their openers added 48 for the first wicket.  

Karishma Ramharack provided West Indies their first breakthrough after taking the wicket Suzie Bates for 28. Amelia Kerr was only able to score 7 while batting at one down.  

While the well-set Georgia Plimmer also left the crease after scoring a 31-ball 33. 

Captain Sophie Devine and Brook Halliday tried to add some quick runs with their 15-ball 27 run stand for the fourth wicket. But as soon as Halliday got out for 18 off 9, New Zealand faced a collapse, lost five wickets, and only managed to record 32 in 38 final balls.

Seasoned Deandra Dottin starred with the ball for West Indies, as she grabbed four wickets for 22 in her 4 overs spell.

West Indies fell short by 8 runs  

In reply, West Indies failed to take a positive note and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.  

None of their top and middle order batters except Deandra Dottin showed signs of a fightback, as everyone after contributing a little left the crease.  

Dotting played a knock of 33 off 22. West Indies were still required 33 off 21 when she got out.  

Afy Flecther (17* off 15) and Zaida James (14 off 8) tried their best to provide finishing touch to the run-chase, but the wicket of James on the third ball of the final over, ended their hopes, as New Zealand won the match and the ticket to T20 World Cup final.
