Group 2 scenario after India’s win
Group 2 scenario after India’s win: After starting the tournament on a high note with a win over the arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game of the tournament, the hot favourites now looking to secure their semis berth after claiming third win in the tournament.
A 5-run loss to South Africa was a bit shock for the men in blue, but a comeback against Bangladesh where the Rohit Sharma-led won by 7 wickets to keep their semis hopes alive.
With a win over Bangladesh, team India made a jump on the points table and they are now having 6 points in 4 games and reached the top spot at the points table.
The match was bit interesting, where India posted 184 for 6 while batting first, and then won the game 5 runs due to DLS method.
Who will qualify from Group 2
The second spot team in the group South Africa, who yet to play 2 games, are the top contenders to top the tables from their group if they win both of their games.
South Africa will cross swords with Pakistan tomorrow and the game is considered as one of the most crucial matches of the group 2 so far.
The result of this match will affect the whole scenario. Now, take a deep dive into the current possibilities, which team will qualify from group 2.
India after claiming a victory has almost confirmed their ticket to the semis, and with 1 match yet to play that too against Zimbabwe, the men in blue will most likely to finish the Super 12 stage with 8 maximum points.
The defeat-less South Africa is looking as the second best team to qualify for the semis from their group. They are currently on second spot with 2 wins and a called off due to rain points on their side.
They, however, yet to face Pakistan and Netherlands, but they just need a single win in 2 games to advance for the semis. If they managed to win both, then the Temba Bavuma side will finish at no.1 spot. And even if they win only 1 then they still qualify.
Loses in both games is quite unlikely for them, but if that happens, then the scenario will be wide open for Pakistan.
Pakistan’s chances to qualify
But to qualify, the men in green have to win both their games, their win against South Africa will gain them confidence and with they have to face Bangladesh, it is likely that the Babar Azam-side will beat Shakib’s Bangladesh.
If Bangladesh by any chance managed to beat Pakistan and South Africa lost both of their games then India and Bangladesh may qualify for the knockouts.
However, it is very unlikely and considering the current form of the all the teams India and South Africa will be the hot favourites to qualify from group 2.
