ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Netherlands seal dramatic final over win against UAE

The dramatic final over game between Netherlands and UAE ended in Netherlands favours as their batters remained calm in the final over to hand their side three-wicket victory over UAE in the second match of ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Earlier, Muhammad Waseem scored the highest-run for his side, but his knock of 41 was not enough to help the UAE cross the 120-run mark.

UAE Vs NED match highlights

UAE after winning the toss and opted to bat, their openers Chirag Suri and Muhammad Waseem started the process decently, but didn’t manage to remain for long on crease as Suri walked back right after the powerplay.

Waseem then joined by Kashif Daud, who both added 26 off 24 for the second wicket before Daud bowled by Tim Pringle for 15.

The wicketkeeper batter Vriitya Aravind and Waseem added 32 to teams total with their modest partnership for the third wicket. But as soon as Waseem, the team faced a sudden collapse.

And with that effect, they only managed to post 111 for 8 on board in 20 overs.

Bas de Leede bagged the most number of wickets for Netherlands (3). Fred Klaassen grabbed 2. While Tim Pringle and Roelof van der Merwe took 1-1 wicket each.

Netherlands to chase 112 runs in 20 overs

In reply, Netherlands clear their intention that they want to win this game as early as possible. Their openers collected 12 runs off the first over.

Vikramjit Singh, however, got out in the second over while trying to slog sweep against Basil Hameed as the later bowled him.

A good going partnership between Max O’Dowd and Bas de Leede was broke by Junaid Siddique as he removed the O’Dowd for 23.

Soon Bas de Leede too walked back and left the team to 59 for 3 in 8.5 overs.

With 53 more to win in 67 delivers, the next pair only added 12 more runs, and then the Dutch team faced a collapse as they lost 3 big wickets in the span of just 5 runs.

Junaid Siddque impressed the most in that time, as he removed 2 main batters in the 14th over of the game. His over brought the Asian side back in the game.

The skipper Scott Edwards and Tim Pringle then took the responsibility of scoring runs for their side and they do added 27 for the seventh wicket.

Pringle, who was playing good got out after scoring 15. The time he leaved the crease Netherlands still required 9 off 9.

The match turned dramatic, and that is quite obvious on a big stage like World Cup. 112 is not a big target to chase, but the pressure of World Cup is bigger than everything.

Netherland needed 6 off the final over with skipper still there on crease.

Rizwan handed the ball to Zawar Farid for the final over, but Netherlands batters kept their calm and secured a victory with 1 ball to spare.
