ENG vs IND Match Highlights
ENG vs IND Match Highlights: In the 2nd semifinals of the T20 World Cup, England emerged winners by completely thrashing India by 10 wickets. England completely dominated in the game, first with the ball and then with the bat. The team scored 170 runs in just 16 overs and completely outplayed the Indian team.
Let’s take a look at how badly India lost to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 Semifinals.
IND VS ENG: India Openers Fails Again
In the first inning, India scored a decent score of 168. The score seemed decent considering that the pitch held back batters in the early overs. India’s openers completely failed throughout the tournament and this match is just a recap of it. We lost our openers within the first 60 runs and it was not a very happy sight.
The burden again came on Virat Kohli and SKY’s shoulders. Sky did not rise high today and lost his wicket scoring just 14 runs. Virat and Hardik again took responsibility on their shoulders and took India to a respectable score but it still felt a little short versus the mighty Indian batting lineup.
IND VS ENG: England Complete Domination
If there are words to describe the 2nd innings of the 2nd semifinals it would be complete ‘domination’. India was completely thrashed by the England openers. The batting display by Alex Hales and Jos Buttler was outstanding. The duo made a 170 runs partnership. They hit bowlers all around the park.
There was no bowler for India that put even the smallest of pressure on the opponent. Rohit Sharma did not look promising as the captain. The fielding and bowling did not match through the innings. It seemed like India had lost confidence very early on. The team had to be amped up from time to time to show fighting spirit.
IND VS ENG: Match Analysis
India lost the match in the power play. The team scored 38 in the first 6 overs of the match while England posted 63 runs. The bowlers were nervous from the beginning and did not show enough courage. They were in shambles when England’s batters started their attack.
The bowling was said to be the trouble area of India and it was proven in the match. The team did not show character in the bowling. They feared the batters. The thought was good but the execution was a complete failure.
It was a commanding performance by Buttler and Hales! Today, everything was about England! With their combination, Kohli and Pandya gave India some legitimacy, but Hales and Buttler’s response was just brilliant.
Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had trouble with the bat, and in the second innings, the English openers’ fireworks left him in the dark. In the opening over of the chase, Buttler struck three boundaries against Bhuvneshwar, and Hales then made it worse for India with a stunning knock.
The England openers never once appeared to be in trouble throughout the run chase, which they completed in 16 overs. The England openers have done much better than Babar and Rizwan did yesterday, who put in a professional display. Therefore, the grand finals at the MCG will feature a fight of the openers.
IND VS ENG: What the Captains Said
IND VS ENG Jos Buttler: The winning Captain
Jos Buttler the winning captain talked about the amazing victory. The captain led by the character. He said, “I think the character we have shown since then (England’s loss against Ireland) – it has been amazing. We came here very excited, there was a very good feeling. Everyone from 1 to 11 – stood up today. We always want to start fast and aggressive. Rashid was batting at 11, that’s incredible to know that we have such depth.”
Talking about Hales, he said, “Hales used the dimensions well and he has shown his form. He was brilliant today. It’s important to enjoy this, it was a brilliant performance from us. I think we need to give special credit to Jordan, to bowl 3 overs at the death coming into the semi-final, it was a tough job. He handled the pressure towards the end pretty well, especially bowling against a world class player like Hardik Pandya.”
IND VS ENG: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, the losing captain looked extremely disappointed. He talked about the failure of bowlers and openers in the match. He said, “Pretty disappointed how it turned up today. We batted well at the backend to get that score. We were not upto the mark with the ball, we couldn’t turn up today. It’s all about handling the pressure in knockout games. All these guys have played enough to understand that. These guys have played under pressure in IPL games, it’s all about keeping calm.”
“We were nervy to start with, but you got to give credit to their openers, they played really well. I thought it swung a bit in the first over, but not from the right areas. We know the runs are scored square off the wicke, we were aware about it. When we won the first game, it showed a lot of character. The game against Bangladesh, it was a tricky one. I thought we held our nerve and kept executing our plans. Couldn’t do that today, and when you don’t execute your plans, you are in trouble.”
