The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written to the ICC suggesting the creation of a working group to examine the effects of franchise cricket on international cricket. The PCB has expressed concern about the expanding number of T20 leagues competing for calendar space.
The PCB expressed its concerns in a letter to the ICC earlier this month, recommending that the CEO of the ICC lead the working group and that a report be submitted in three months. One of the key concerns of the PCB is that Pakistan will lose the chance to play international cricket during the extended IPL calendar.

The local T20 leagues will be one specific item on Pakistan’s [ICC AGM] agenda. We are somewhat concerned that the international calendar is being drained of time due to the growth of domestic leagues across the world. In two to three months, new leagues will begin to form. PCB CEO Faisal Hasnain stated, “We want this to be explored and a clear approach formed.
According to Hasnain, the PCB wrote to the ICC to express its concerns, and it is assumed that the ICC has added the topic to the agenda for the July AGM. Additionally, the PCB noted that two other boards had the same problems.
The PCB asserted in its letter that it was on to the ICC to give its members fair treatment and equitable access to opportunities.
Since its players haven’t competed in the biggest T20 competition in the world since 2008, the PCB is especially worried about the IPL timeframe. Despite playing each other in ICC and ACC tournaments, India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012–13 because of tense political ties between the two nations.
Pakistan will be unable to play top-tier teams during the extended IPL window in the next FTP, but the other boards would receive some compensation in the form of a portion of the IPL players’ salaries. The PCB urged the ICC to devise a plan that would help boards make up the money they would have lost as a result of scheduling T20 events during the peak season.
