History Repeats: New Zealand once again crumble in semi-finals against Pakistan

New Zealand Cricket History

PAK vs NZ: Pakistan was missing out on the form of openers and for the big occasion they stood up

New Zealand Cricket History: New Zealand’s extraordinary consistency continued as they made it to the last four of a major ICC competition for the 12th time. Although their wait for a trophy continues. New Zealand has become accustomed to limited-overs misery.

The great stage losses in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup finals and last year’s T20 championship. But there was cause to expect things would be different in the match yesterday.

However, recent history didn’t matter much against a Pakistani team that gave the Black Caps a taste of the misery they inflicted on the Australian side in group stages. Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, said, “They were too good today and we weren’t quite at our best.”

From 1975 to 2022 New Zealand has always come close to winning the major ICC title but has failed always in completing the mission. It is interesting to see what will be the plan for the New Zealand side next year in the ODI T20 World Cup in India.

Will New Zealand History Repeat again?

With the ODI World Cup coming up next year in India. Black Caps will be looking to change New Zealand’s History in terms of winning the title. However, they were performing at a very high level with the highest net run rate of any team competing in this edition of the T20 World Cup but things did not happen as the Blackcaps wanted.

Kane Williamson Comments on New Zealand History in Major Tournaments

Williamson emphasized the strong atmosphere in camp but added that his team’s chances were harmed by the lackluster performance on Wednesday in Sydney.

Following the game, Williamson stated “To me, it’s about the game, the performance, and that’s certainly what we look at. That’s the frustrating thing for me today. If you get beaten playing your best cricket, then you certainly have to accept that. Today was a little bit disappointing. There were some good bits, but we thought we had a defendable total if we were to be on our game, and the margins are small in this format. Pakistan was outstanding with the bat and certainly chased that down.” Source- ICC

New Zealand’s Next Match

New Zealand will now go back home and will asses on what went wrong. Now the Black Caps will play a three-match T20i series against India starting on 18th November. After the T20i series, New Zealand will place a three-match ODI series starting on 25th November at Eden Park, Auckland.
