Players Who Deserved A Chance In New Zealand and Bangladesh Tour
The Indian selection committee recently announced multiple squads for tours to New Zealand and Bangladesh. India is scheduled to play the white-ball series in New Zealand. They will be playing Tests in Bangladesh in addition to white-ball games. There are plenty of familiar names on board for both these tours. But there are few players who might consider themselves unlucky as they weren’t selected for any team across the format.

#5 Jitesh Sharma
He showcased his finisher skills in IPL 2022. Sharma was one of the shining domestic stars of Punjab’s campaign. In a team featuring solid international power hitters, it was Sharma who stole the show. He scored 234 runs in 10 innings at an admirable average of 29.2. It was his strike rate of 163.6 that made all the right noise. Anil Kumble has spoken highly about him. The tour to New Zealand could have been a good testing ground for Sharma.
#4 Sarfaraz Khan
If there is one cricketer who deserved to be on the red-ball tour to Bangladesh then it has to be Sarfaraz Khan. The talented youngster has been through the hard yards in his yet young career. Khan has been in sensational form in the past couple of years notching 900+ runs in two consecutive seasons. He is the only batsman apart from Don Bradman to average 81.33 in first-class cricket. But sadly he won’t be boarding the flight to Bangladesh.
#3 Rahul Tewatia
India’s Achilles heel has been finishing well at the death overs in recent times. The problem seems to persist even at the T20 World Cup. But the team is not keen to invest on players who have specific skill sets for this position. They continue to look beyond Rahul Tewatia who has already shown what he brings to the table in the IPL. His left-hand angle can add a wonderful dimension to the side.
#2 Mohsin Khan
He made everyone sit up and take notice of his talent in IPL 2022. Mohsin Khan was arguably LSG’s most valuable player this season. He bowled with raw pace hitting the hard lengths more often than not. In his debut year itself, he outbowled many of his senior teammates. Khan even showed terrific skills with the bat coming in lower down the order. He reminded cricket lovers of a certain Mitchell Johnson who displayed the same credentials.
#1 Prithvi Shaw
There is little doubt that Prithvi Shaw is the Indian domestic batter. Shaw already is a domestic giant who keeps scoring runs for fun. He smashed a Test century on debut too. But the selectors seem to be rigid with his omission. He strikes at 125 in List-A ODI cricket averaging over 56.
His domestic red-ball numbers are sensational too. There is hardly anything more that Shaw could have done to grab the selectors’ attention. He certainly deserved to be on the plane to these two away tours.
