Captain Of Bangladesh in the T20I: Shakib Al Hasan was named the T20I captain by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday and will serve in that capacity through the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
Following Shakib’s withdrawal from his wagering agreement with Betwinner and their private meeting at Nazmul Hasan’s home, the BCB chief made the statement.
As Liton Das was ruled out of the Asia Cup owing to injury, Bangladesh also made a number of changes to their T20I roster.
Naturally, Shakib is back to serve as the team’s captain. Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Ebadat Hossain, and Mohammad Saifuddin are all back.
Unexpectedly, BCB decided to include Nurul Hasan, who had previously been disqualified, despite the fact that Munim Shahriar, Nazmul Hossain, and Shoriful Islam could not make the cut.
On August 21, Nurul’s suture is anticipated to be removed following surgery. BCB head selector Minhajul Abedin stated on naming the team, “We will assess where he stands and thus we are retaining him in the squad. Additionally, Sabbir Rahman was added because the team wanted a powerful hitter to lower down the order, according to Minhajul.
Squad: Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Sabbir Rahman, Mehedy Hasan Miraz, Anamul Haq Bijoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mossaddek Saikat, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sheikh Mahedi, Hasan Mahmud, Parvez Hossain Emon, Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Taskin Ahmed. Captain: Shakib al Has
Following the meeting, Jalal Yunus, the head of the BCB cricket organization, told the media that Shakib al Hasan will serve as captain till the next ICC T20 World Cup.
He acknowledged his error in signing the contract with Betwinner News and promised not to repeat it. As a result, he expressed optimism.
Shakib has experience in the position since he served as the temporary T20I skipper in 2009–10, captaining the team for four games. He was the T20I captain when Mashrafe bin Mortaza retired from the format before being punished by the ICC for failing to disclose corrupt approaches. He was in charge of the squad 17 times during this second spell, which ran from 2017 to 2019, and Bangladesh won seven of the 21 games played during that time.
