Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das suffered a huge blow after suffering a hamstring injury during the First ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. Litton was batting on 81 when he suffered the injury and was stretched out.
Later BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin updated that “Litton is ruled out from the tour of Zimbabwe”. Bangladesh’s batting line-up will be affected as Litton’s had been scoring consistently in the recent past.
After the five-wicket loss against Zimbabwe Bangladesh physio said that “Litton Das hurt his hamstring while batting in the first ODI. We sent him for a scan during the match and we found that he has a grade 2 muscle strain. It takes three to four weeks to recover from this type of injury. So we are not getting Litton back during this series”.
Litton Das is the first wicketkeeper-batsman in Bangladesh believed sufficient to be a drawn-out replacement to Mushfiqur Rahim. His domestic endeavors for Abahani in the Dhaka Premier League and Rangpur Division in the National Cricket League in the 2014-15 season procured him acknowledgment and later a call-up in the senior side for the Test against India in Fatullah in June 2015.
Litton is considered a compact batsman with good defensive technique and flair in his stroke play, He did not take that much time to get selected for the domestic first-class cricket in the 2011-12 season. For Litton 2014-15 season was a big-time hit when he became the second highest scorer in the Dhaka Premier League for Abahani Limited Dhaka.
Litton’s appearance is on hold as the Asia Cup which is scheduled at the end of August where Bangladesh will begin its campaign by taking on Afghanistan in the group B clash at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on August 30, and the second game is against Sri Lanka at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September first. BCB is closely monitoring the situation of Litton.
Shoriful Islam was also injured after taking a hit on the knee after he missed a return catch from Kaia, where he bowled only 8.4 overs, and even Mushfiqur suffered a thumb injury while batting. Bangladesh physio was confident of the player’s recovery before the second ODI against Zimbabwe, who was ruled out for the Zimbabwe tour due to a finger injury, is also on the anxious list for the Asia Cup squad.
