#5 Hansie Cronje – 76.66%
He captained the side across two World Cups. Hansie Cronje is South Africa’s most successful captain in World Cups. South Africa won 11 out of the 15 games Cronje captained them in the tournament. They made it to the quarters and the semis of the 1996 and 1999 World Cup respectively. South Africa was eminent favourites for the 1999 World Cup but fate had other plans for them. Cronje finished with a success rate of 76.66%.
#4 Sourav Ganguly – 81.81%
He is credited with building a strong Indian team at the turn of this century. Sourav Ganguly inherited a side that had forgotten the art of winning. He led the side in just one single edition of the World Cup in 2003 but India reached the finals of that World Cup. India put on a spirited performance in 2003 only to lose their games to eventual champions Australia. The side won 8 games on a trot post their defeat to Australia in the group stage. Ganguly’s India won 9 games out of 11 in the 2003 World Cup with a success percentage of 81.81.

#3 MS Dhoni – 85.29%
He is the last Indian captain to lead India in two World Cups (2011 and 2015). MS Dhoni was also the last Indian captain to lead India to World Cup glory in 2011. India lost just two games under the Dhoni era in these two tournament editions. The loss to Australia in the World Cup semifinal in 2015 saw them exit the World Cup. India lost to South Africa in 2011. The side had an aura of a world-beating side in the World Cups under Dhoni. He finished with a win percentage of 85.29 in the World Cups.

He was the captain of the world-dominating West Indies side in the 70s. Clive Lloyd led- West Indies won the first two editions of the World Cup in 1975 and 1975 without dropping a game. Their winning run came to a halt in 1983 when they lost both their games to India. Lloyd led the side in 17 World Cup games winning 15 of them with a win percentage of 88.23. He occupies the second spot on this elite list.

He is arguably the best captain to lead a side in a World Cup. Ricky Ponting’s Australia won two consecutive World Cups in 2003 and 2007 without dropping a single game. Australia won 22 games on a trot during these two editions. Their juggernaut came to an end when they lost to Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup. India then knocked Australia out of the 2011 World Cup in the quarterfinals. It was the only two games that Ponting lost as captain in the World Cups. His winning percentage of 92.85 is easily the best on this coveted list.
