Team England have reclaimed their top position in the ICC World Cup league standings after defeating team India in the second ODI by 100 runs at Lord’s in London on Thursday.
England after winning the game gained 10 points and now have 135 ratings in the ICC World Cup league table.
The hosts faced a defeat in the first ODI by 10 wickets, but they bounced back strongly in the second one-day international to not just level the series but also topped the chart in the important ICC standings.
Why the ICC World Cup League Standing is important?
After the completion of all the fixtures of the ICC World Cup League cycle, the top eight teams will receive an automatic entry into the ICC Men’s Cricket Cup 2023, which is scheduled to play in India. While for the remaining two spots teams have to work hard in World Cup qualifiers alongside Associate teams.
Team India’s position in ICC World Cup league standings
After facing a huge defeat by 100 runs in the second ODI against England, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side have been slipped to 7th spot in the standings with 79 points.
However, team India will automatically qualify for the biggest event of cricket due to the advantage of hosting the tournament.
India can climb up to 5th spot if they managed to win the third and final game of the series against England.
The third match between India and England will take place on Sunday, July 17 at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
How many teams will take part in ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023?
There are as many as 13 teams who will be seen playing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, including the qualifiers. This include 12 full member nations. While the 13th team is of Netherlands as they won the ICC World Cup League back in 2017.
Having said that, the top 8 teams will automatically qualify for the World Cup, while the remaining five teams will compete against each other to claim the vacant two spots.
