Who holds the edge? India and New Zealand faceoff in final group stage clash

India and New Zealand Head-to-Head record in ODI cricket

The 12th match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 features a high-stakes clash between India and New Zealand on March 2 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams have been on stellar form, securing their spots in the semi-finals with unbeaten records in the group stage. This match will determine the group leader, influencing the semi-final matchups. So Let’s take a look at India and New Zealand Head to Head record in ODI cricket.

IND vs NZ Head-to-Head

India holds a slight advantage with 60 wins, while New Zealand has clakmed success 50 times in 118 ODI being played between India and New Zealand. There have been seven no-results and one tie between the two sides.

In their last ODI meeting, India emerged victorious over New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup, showcasing a dominant performance that propelled them to the final.

Teams update

Both teams enter this match with confidence. India’s batting lineup, led by captain Rohit Sharma, has been in exceptional form. Kohli’s recent century against Pakistan not only secured India’s semi-final berth but also highlighted his return to peak performance, surpassing 14,000 ODI runs.

New Zealand’s batting has been equally impressive. Rachin Ravindra, after recovering from a concussion, marked his return with a stellar century against Bangladesh, underscoring the depth of New Zealand’s batting prowess.

The return of all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, who missed the previous game due to illness, further strengthens their lineup.

In the bowling department, India’s pace attack, spearheaded by Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana has been effective in both powerplays and death overs. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav exploited the conditions well, providing crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs.

New Zealand’s bowling attack, led by pacers Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson, has been disciplined, maintaining tight lines and lengths. Spinner Mitchell Santner offers control and variety, making him a key asset in the middle overs.

The final battle ahead of semis

The outcome of this match will determine the semi-final fixtures. A win for India would pit them against Australia, while New Zealand would face South Africa. Conversely, a New Zealand victory would see them top the group, setting up a semi-final against Australia, with India facing South Africa.
