Afghanistan vs England 8th Match Highlights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Afghanistan’s 1st innings started underwhelmingly low when their opener Ibrahim Zadran started gaining momentum in his 146 ball stint. He went on to score the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history. Let’s look Afghanistan vs England highlights for 8th match of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
AFG High Resilience vs ENG
England will have to get upto the target of 326 to stay alive in the Champions Trophy after Afghanistan’s dominant innings. Ibrahim Zadran delivered a brilliant knock, scoring 177 off 146 balls, showing exceptional power, skill, and endurance. His innings helped Afghanistan recover from a shockingly low start, with Zadran leading the charge in the last overs. England’s bowlers, led by Jofra Archer, struggled to contain the run flow, with Mark Wood hobbling off early due to a knee injury. Liam Livingstone also picked up an injury, adding to England’s woes.
Despite this, Archer and Adil Rashid managed to keep some control, but Afghanistan’s middle-order batsmen, including Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai, continued to accelerate, pushing the score beyond 300. England, already without Brydon Carse, now faces not only a daunting chase but also injury concerns with key players, making this a tough task for the defending champions.
England’s depth test
Just like Afghanistan’s innings England had a low and underwhelming start to their innings as well, Salt and Smith were dismissed in the powerplay. After Joe Root struck onto the pitch until the 45th over, he had strong partnerships with Duckett and Buttler. After scoring 120 runs in 111 balls he was dismissed in the 45th by a slow ball knocking over to the wicketkeeper.
Although Overton and Archer were looking as if they’d score the runs, they too were dismissed in the latter overs. England were bundled up for 317/10 in the final over. Azmatullah was the star bowler who took 5 wickets in his stint for 58 runs.
