Lance Klusener Named As Zimbabwe’s New Batting Coach!

South African former all-rounder, Lance Klusener has been designated as batting coach for Zimbabwe’s men’s national team. Throughout a discussion, the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) executive board approved the appointment. During 2016 and 2018, the 50-year-old was Zimbabwe’s batting coach. He later served as head coach of Afghanistan’s men’s national team before quitting on January 1, 2022. Here we have discussed on Who is the Zimbabwe Batting Coach?

Furthermore, Sean Williams has been named Zimbabwe’s Test skipper. Williams has played 14 games for his nation, totaling 1034 runs at a respectable avg of 41.36. In his bowling career, the spinner has 21 scalps at an average rating of 3.18.

Craig Ervine appointed as Zimbabwe’s full-time limited-overs skipper

Also, many judgments were decided by the board at the session. Craig Ervine, a left-handed hitter, was appointed Zimbabwe’s full-time limited-overs skipper. In his ODI tenure, the 36-year-old batsman has featured almost 100 games, scoring 2837 runs at an avg of 32.61. Ervine has contested 34 T20I games for his nation, scoring 777 runs at an avg of 25.06.

The Zimbabwe board members announced Lance Klusener’s hiring as the team’s batting coach in a report provided on Monday. “He is taking over from Stuart Matsikenyeri, who now moves to the position of assistant coach, while Lalchand Rajput remains in charge as head coach of the national side,” the report read.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket is looking to hire a bowling coach as well as a fitness instructor for the men’s national squad. Zimbabwe will face Ireland in 5 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), 3 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and a Test beginning in April. Bangladesh is planning to tour Zimbabwe in July for 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is.

Klusener was a standout performer for Afghanistan’s cricket squad before returning to Zimbabwe. The South African coach, on the other hand, said in December that he would step down as Afghanistan’s head coach once his current contract expires.

Klusener was appointed Afghanistan captain in September 2019 and guided the team to victory in the concluded 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. Despite Zimbabwe’s abilities significantly improving at the moment, the country’s inability to qualify for the 2019 World Cup appeared to overturn all of the benefits gained, resulting in the sacking of the whole coaching team.
