1: Man of the series in U-19 World Cup, 2000:

The name of Yuvraj Singh started doing the rounds in the year 2000 when the Indian U-19 team was selected and Mohammad Kaif was appointed the captain. Yuvraj Singh smashed 203 runs which included 2 half-centuries and 12 wickets in India’s first Under-19 World Cup-winning campaign. He was rightfully awarded the man of the series for his stellar performances. This was just the start to what ended up being a glittering career.

2: Debut innings against Australia in Champions Trophy Knockout, 2000:

His U-19 pyrotechnics didn’t go unnoticed and Yuvraj Singh was seamlessly drafted into the senior ODI side. Even though he made his debut against Kenya in the opening game of ICC Champions Trophy Knockout, Yuvraj Singh didn’t get to bat against them. It was in this scenario when Yuvraj Singh walked in to bat against Australia with India in a spot of bother. Yuvraj Singh scored a stroke-filled 80 balls 84 which left the Aussies dumbstruck. His exploits continued while fielding too when he affected a crucial run-out of Michael Bevan. A star was born!

3: ICC T20 World Cup, 2007:

There was a Natwest series triumph, there was a maiden test hundred, Yuvraj Singh by then had become one of India’s central figures in cricket. After a disappointing first-round exit in the 50 over World Cup in 2007 earlier that year, not many had given India a chance in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in 2007. But Yuvraj Singh had other ideas. His 2 knocks proved to be the main difference between India winning the World Cup. His 6 sixes of 6 balls assault on Stuart Broad is the stuff of legend while his 30 ball 70 against Australia in the semi-finals was a glowing highlight of a man who was at the peak of his powers. That innings against Australia to date remains one of the best T20I knocks ever played.

4: ICC 50 Over ODI World Cup, 2011:

The Indian team wanted to win this World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar. The fact that this was a home World Cup made the journey even more special. Heading into the World Cup Yuvraj Singh wasn’t in fine shape physically and mentally. But he didn’t pay heed to anything. The man risked his life to ensure that his team wins the cup. He didn’t care about anything. Yuvraj Singh scored 362 runs which saw 5 consecutive fifties and add to that he picked up 15 crucial wickets as well. His brilliant all-round show helped India win the World Cup after 28 long years.

5: Highest score of 150 against England in 2017:

After the glorious high of winning the World Cup, life served Yuvraj Singh a crucial blow. He was diagnosed with Cancer in late 2011. Yuvraj Singh made a comeback into the national team in 2012 but he no longer remained the player he was before this trial and tribulation. But Yuvraj Singh finally cemented his spot in 2017 when he was recalled to the Indian ODI setup and identified as the best number 4 going around. Yuvraj Singh didn’t disappoint and scored a fabulous 150 against England which happens to be his highest ODI score. It showed that even after 17 years of playing top-flight international cricket, there was still something which Yuvraj Singh had to offer. The game was richer when he played and Stumpsandbails thanks him for his services towards the game. We wish Yuvi Pa a very happy birthday!
