Mohammad Yousuf On Sachin Tendulkar And Rahul Dravid:
Mohammad Yousuf former Pakistan cricketer, was recently in the headlines when he came out to condemn the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their decision to proceed with Misbah-ul-Haq for his dual role as both head coach and selector.
The former legend is in the headlines again, because he claimed that the current lot should not be compared to the former ones. Yousuf said there have been three-four top-quality players in major teams such as India, Australia, and South Africa in the past, but they should not be compared with the current generation cricketers.
The 45-year-old took on the names of players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Yuvraj Singh and said they could not be compared with the current talented batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“Teams like India, Australia, and South Africa had 3-4 quality players at the side in the past. India had players such as Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Yuvraj Singh for example. These six batsmen played in a single team, “Yousuf said during a television show.
“The present Indian team lacks these batsmen. You can’t equate the current players with the class of Sachin and Dravid [such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma], ” Yousuf added.
Yousuf played for Pakistan in 288 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 90 Tests in which he scored 9720 and 7530 runs respectively. His average in ODI was 41.7 while the phenomenal batsman averaged 52.30 in the red-ball format.
