Virat Kohli Congratulates BJ Watling

Kohli exchanged handshakes with New Zealand wicketkeeper BJ Watling, who is in his final match. Watling just chose to retire from all forms of cricket last month. Kohli made sure to shake hands with Watling before his innings began, and he most likely congratulated the 35-year-old on his incredible career with New Zealand.

Watling has been a key member of Kane Williamson’s New Zealand team. He has scored 3773 runs in 73 Tests so far, including eight centuries. In 28 One-Day Internationals for the Blackcaps, he scored 573 runs. Watling is said to want to spend time with his family after retirement, although he is considering coaching as a long-term career option.

“It’s something I’m looking at. The next six months or so I’ll just kind of wing it at this stage and I’ll start to look into what options I have after the game.”

“It’s the right time. It’s been a huge honor to represent New Zealand and in particular, wear the Test baggy. Test cricket really is the pinnacle of the game and I’ve loved every minute of being out there in the whites with the boys,” Watling had said earlier.

Given that India and New Zealand are presently competing for the top spot, it would be interesting to see if Watling can repeat his achievement of winning the inaugural World Test Championship with the New Zealand team.
