Worst Year For Me As An Analyst: Sanjay Manjrekar Recalls Some Incidents Of 2019

Former India team batsman and the present commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has highlighted that 2019 was the worst year for him. He spoke about his comment regarding the Team India, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, at the time of ICC World Cup and also about the “Unprofessional and Indecent” comment which he made when commentating with Harsha Bhogle.

In the year 1997-1998 I had started my career, so it’s been almost 20-21 years. But this was the worst year for me as analyst and a commentator,” Manjrekar gave this statement to ESPNcricinfo.

Some Memories That Sanjay Manjrekar Recalled:

He also made it clear that what he said about Jadeja was justified and correct, the all-rounder has heard very clearly and reacted to it. However, he added that he was not at fault or had no regrets calling the left-hand batsman as it was a commonly used statement in the cricket world.

“I have played twice the no. of matches that you have played and I am still continuing to play. Learn to respect people who have achieved their milestones. I have gone enough of your verbal diarrhea Sanjay Manjrekar.Jadeja gave his reply to Manjrekar on the social account.

It was in November when Team India took on Bangladesh in a day-night Test match that Manjrekar raised another controversy when he got into a minor verbal chat with Harsha Bhogle regarding the pink ball that was being used in Team India’s maiden Day-Night Test match against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

When the commentary was going on, Bhogle advised that they need to have proper supervision after the pink-ball Test match, asking the cricketers whether there were any problems regarding the visibility. Responding to this statement, Manjrekar told that “only you need to question, Harsha, not us, who have played a fair bit of the match.”

I want to get very serious about this,” he stated. “See, one thing I am proud of myself on being the professional and with that particular comment, it was me who was losing control, and I was unprofessional, I was wrong and regret about it. It was wrong which I did. This is what really bothers me that flowed with my emotions get the better of me.

Mostly being unprofessional and to an extent indecent as well.

It was wrong, and I am accepting it because it was very unprofessional and the first thing that I did to rectify it was I had to apologize to the producer that I was working for that it was wrong,” he stated.
