Without India, Richard Hadlee Believes That World Cricket Will Be “Different”: “Cricket Needs India”

The former New Zealand cricketer, the legend Richard Hadlee believes that the Indian national team are important to world cricket because it generates huge revenues. Hadlee said that world cricket will be “Different” without India participation, according to a press release on the International Cricket Council (ICC) official website.

He said, “There is no doubt India produces a lot of revenue for cricket especially through television rights, sponsorships, advertising, attracting big crowds and through tournaments like IPL, etc.Without India, the face of the world cricket would be different, therefore cricket needs India.”

 

India has made an outstanding contribution to Test cricket: Richard Hadlee

Richard Hadlee appreciated India’s attitude towards Test cricket and said that world cricket wanted India because of the sport’s large revenue generation. When asked about India’s contribution and focus on Test cricket in the view of money-making enterprises such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Hadlee said, “India has made an outstanding contribution to Test cricket, in fact, all formats of the game.” After having been down and out after the first test failure, Hadlee also complimented India’s good performance.

New Zealand legend Richard Hadlee praised India’s attitude towards Test cricket.”Their Test performances in Australia were outstanding even though they had that blip and were bowled out for 36,” he said.

“They bounced back superbly well, and Test cricket came alive again, it attracted a lot of interest and their performances in Australia were a remarkable achievement especially with so many youngsters having to come into the team and perform,” he added.

In the first-ever World Test Championship (WTC) finals in Southampton, India will be facing New Zealand on June 18.
