Wicket Keeper Ranking World Cup 2023

The role of a wicketkeeper changed completely once Adam Gilchrist arrived onto the scene. Keepers no longer could survive basis a single skill of wicketkeeping. They had to contribute with the bat to merit a place in the lineup. The likes of Mark Boucher and MS Dhoni took up finishing duties.

Brendon McCullum and Kumar Sangakkara batted up the order. All of them have left a huge impact on the game. Keeping wickets in Indian conditions is not an easy job and to score runs on top of that makes it doubly difficult.

We rank the Wicket Keeper Ranking World Cup 2023:

#10 Josh Inglis – Australia

The Australian wicketkeeper wasn’t the team’s first-choice keeper coming into the tournament. Alex Carey started the tournament against India but he was found wanting against spin. Australia immediately decided to swap him with Josh Inglis. The keeper batter averages 19.91 with the bat. He is yet to come up with a match winning performance in this format.

#9 Scott Edwards – Netherlands

He played a quality hand in the game against South Africa. Scott Edwards combined forces with the lower order to post a competitive total against the Proteas. His captaincy was spot on as well ensuring a historic dutch win. Edwards though needs to step up considerably for his side to maintain respectability in standings.

#8 Mushfiqur Rahim – Bangladesh

The veteran keeper batter continues to play a pivotal role for his team. But Mushfiqur Rahim much like Bangladesh has had a tournament to forget so far. He is playing his fifth World Cup and will look to finish on a high.

#7 Jos Buttler – England

The England captain is yet to fire in this World Cup so far. Jos Buttler is regarded as one of the best ODI batters of this generation. But his current World Cup exploits leave a lot to be desired.

#6 Tom Latham – New Zealand

He has stepped in beautifully for Kane Williamson as the stand-in skipper. Tom Latham has gone about his business in a calm manner. But Latham the batsman is yet to step up in this tournament.

#5 KL Rahul – India

It was KL Rahul whose 97* helped India win a top game against Australia in the first match. Rahul has played supporting act in the next couple of matches. It will be interesting to see how he fares when India bats first.

#4 Mohammad Rizwan – Pakistan

He played one of the innings of the tournament against Sri Lanka helping Pakistan register a record win while chasing. Mohammad Rizwan has gotten off to starts in almost all games. His form needs to rub on to his side to turn around their fortunes.

#3 Kusal Mendis – Sri Lanka

He started the tournament in a brilliant fashion. Kusal Mendis dispatched South African bowlers to all parts of the ground. He went one better against Pakistan scoring a superb century. But his form has dipped a bit in the last few games.

#2 Rahmanullah Gurbaz – Afghanistan

Not many would have expected to see his name feature so high on this list. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been sensational for Afghanistan in this World Cup. Their 2 major wins this tournament has come on back of Gurbaz’s brilliance.

#1 Quinton de Kock – South Africa

It came as a surprise to many when he announced that he would retire from ODIs post the World Cup. Quinton de Kock has been excellent both with bat and with gloves in this World Cup. He is the only batter to score 3 centuries so far. QDK leads the run-scoring charts. It is a shame that he will retire so early from this format!
