The West Indies lost both Kieran Powell and Nkrumah Bonner for ducks on the first day of action in the WI vs PAK Match. The hosts, on the other hand, have a little advantage after day 2, as they lead by 34 runs with 2 wickets remaining in their first innings.
Following 2 early wickets, captain Kraigg Brathwaite, as well as Roston Chase, attempted to revive the innings. For the 3rd wicket, the pair put up 50 runs, however, Hasan Ali dismissed Chase for 21 runs to set them apart. Jermaine Blackwood made his debut before being replaced by Shaheen Afridi.
West Indies were pushed to 100 for 5 after Kyle Mayers’ duck. With not much batting still to come, the home team was still behind by 117 runs. Brathwaite and former captain Jason Holder took over at the crease from there, guiding their team towards victory. They put up 96 runs for the 6th wicket and appeared to be on their way to surpassing Pakistan’s total.
From a team’s Point of view, I would have liked to be there at the end: Brathwaite
Faheem Ashraf, on the other hand, located Holder’s outside edge and used it to give Pakistan a respite. Holder died after scoring 58 from 108 balls, including 10 fours. Brathwaite, on the other side, appeared to be on his way to a magnificent century.
Holder was dismissed, and Brathwaite was also discarded a few overs later. Unfortunately, this was also deposed by a score of 97. His knock had 12 fours in it. Kemar Roach was also released afterward. On day 3, the specialized batters included Joshua da Silva and Jomel Warrican.
Brathwaite was dissatisfied with his dismissing method. He said that staying till the end of the day would have greatly benefited the West Indies. Brathwaite also praised Pakistan’s bowlers for their consistency.
“Obviously not feeling too good (getting run-out on 97), as soon as I returned for the second (sensed the trouble), but I committed to two and then I took off. Probably misjudged it and wouldn’t do it again but from a team’s POV [Point of view] I would have liked to be there at the end,” Brathwaite was quoted as saying after the day’s play.
“Felt good to see a number of drives and I’m very proud of that, have put in a lot of work and just shows that hard work pays off. Pakistan bowlers bowled well and kept it really tight,” he added.
