After seven years of not being able to bring the IPL title, Ricky was finally let go and could quite possibly be replaced by the Current Team Director of Delhi Capitals Sourav Ganguly, a former India Captain.
The Delhi Capitals took to their X (formerly twitter) and shared an image of Ponting’s decision of stepping down, “As you move on as our Head Coach, we’re finding it incredibly hard to put this down in words. The four things you told us about in every huddle – care, commitment, attitude and effort – they sum up our seven summers together, this was further captioned by saying ” It’s been a great journey, Coach! Thank you for everything”.

Who will be the new head coach for Delhi Capitals in IPL?
Sourav Ganguly, the current Team Director of Delhi Capitals Sourav Ganguly, identified as one of the first runners-up for the position.
In an exclusive interview with Bengali newspaper Aajkal, Sourav Ganguly was asked if there was a possibility of him becoming the next head coach for the Delhi Capitals to which he responded “I have to plan for the next year’s IPL. I want to win the IPL for the Delhi Capitals once. The mega auction is next year, and hence I have started planning from now on. Geoffrey Boycott was right, as Ponting has not been able to take the franchise forward in the past 7 years. I have to speak with the franchise and ask them to look at Indian coaches”.
Ganguly also dropped an enormous clue when asked who the next head coach will be, saying he might take up the responsibilities as the head coach saying “I will be the head coach. Let’s see how I perform. Will need to recruit some new players”.
The Capitals reached playoffs of the Indian Premier League three times during Ricky Ponting’s stint as the head coach. Delhi Capitals are one the three teams that haven’t won the IPL title since the league’s inception.
