Pimpri-Chinchwad first Selected For Indian Cricket Team
Gaikwad’s success story is becoming better by the day. He was also named captain of the Maharashtra squad on the domestic circuit earlier this year. Although the graceful right-hand batsman failed to pick up the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he rebounded in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring two fifties and forming a dangerous opening pair with Faf du Plessis, giving Chennai Super Kings a flying start.
The 24-year-old will now get the opportunity to prove his abilities on a national level, and he will take the moment with both hands. “I am happy to be selected to represent the country… I hope to do well at the international stage,” Ruturaj told The Indian Express.
“I was not thinking much about the team selection but, yes, it was there on the back of my mind… Now that I have got the opportunity to represent the country, I will put in my best efforts on the big stage and do well for the country.”
Dilip Vengsarkar Has A Few Positive Words For Ruturaj Gaikwad
Last year’s IPL gave the cricketing world its first view of Gaikwad, who smashed three back-to-back fifties. Everyone praised his skills and approach. In the Dilip Vengsarkar academy, the youngster improved his abilities.
When asked about his selection for the team, the former cricketer suggested that Gaikwad make use of the opportunity. “Ruturaj has got a golden opportunity to prove his mettle at the international stage. Such an opportunity does not come easily and therefore, he should score tons through his consistent performance.” Vengsarkar said.
Gaikwad should turn his beginnings into something serious, according to the former selector, and stay cool and controlled at the crease.
