Mahrafe Mortaza Has Declared His Resignation:
Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh’s ODI captain has declared his resignation by himself. Now BCB has to decide his replacement. On March 8th, most probably the new captain of Bangladesh is likely to be declared. The BCB can think of following candidates to wear the crown of Bangladesh’s ODI captain.
Shakib Al Hasan:
Shakib Al Hasan is the most favored long-term captain of BCB across all formats in spite of being suspended until this year October end. In this period, they have appointed Mominul Haque as the Test captain and Mahmudullah as the T20Is captain. But if results don’t improve in these seven months, then Shakib will be the captain. Nazmul Hassan, the president of BCB has already disclosed in one press-conference that Shakib is under consideration as captain.
Mushafiqur Rahim
From October 2011, Mushafir led the Bangladesh team in all formats before Mashrafe Mortaza till 2014 and later Shakib led the team in Tests in the year 2017. Under Mushfiqur Rahim captaincy, out of 37 ODIs, Bangladesh won 11 matches incorporating series win against West Indies and home matches win in New Zealand. But his decision of not to play with Pakistan worried the president of BCB, who criticized it publicly also.
Mahmudullah
Now, Mahmudullah is the captain of T20I. Also, he has the full support of the coach Russell Domingo to do captaincy in the T20 World Cup, which is going to be held in Australia this year. Over the previous five years, Mahmudullah is a big portion of limited-over plans of Bangladesh and also, he is considered as one of the fantastic batsmen in the middle-order over.
Tamim Iqbal
After going through a tough time period in the 2019 World Cup, it is doubtful that Tamim wants to do ODI captaincy at this phase of his carrier. After that, for some months he took a break from international cricket and come back earlier this year. Just he became the first batman of Bangladesh, who can reach 7,000 ODI runs and remain as the most crucial top-order batsman of the team.
