It won’t be wrong to say that the previous decade of IPL had been dominated by Mumbai Indians (4 IPL trophies) and CSK (3 IPL trophies).
CSK started the decade with 2 back to back wins (they won in 2010 and 2011) a feat which hasn’t been repeated by any other team yet. KKR under Gautam Gambhir managed to win championships in 3 years (they won in 2012 and 2014).
While Mumbai Indians following the CSK model of building the team around key players and retaining them at auctions ended up winning all their 4 titles in the past decade (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019)
If we try to look ahead at this decade, Mumbai Indians sure look to be in solid shape with their key members still having age on their side, KKR too seems to be in a decent position with their young Indian core group slowly building up their potential.
Delhi Capitals are one side who have a healthy bunch of youngsters with all of them having their best years of cricket ahead of them. KXIP too seems to have invested in players who could be their future. RR is famous to back young Indian talent and they continue to follow that process. SRH seems to have finally come to grips that the youth has to be trusted a bit more and it can’t always be Warner, Bairstow, and Rashid.
This leads to two teams having a rich legacy in the league, RCB, and CSK. While RCB looks to be having their best season yet in this IPL, it is high time they started building a team going beyond their 2 iconic superstars, Virat Kohli and Ab De Villiers.
And CSK on the other hand has no choice but to embrace youth since there is no going back from here on.
If at gunpoint, you were to ask us, which team would probably be the team of the decade 10 years from now, we would place our bets on DC.
