Australia vs India: What Does Tour Of Australia Mean To Indian Team?

A few months back the tour of Australia seemed like a distant dream for Team India. With Covid-19 cases not settling down, the whole tour was under a shadow of a doubt. But then all the players immersed themselves in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) held in UAE. While things were going on at a war footing in Australia to ensure that India’s tour remains unscathed.

Recent history between India and Australia

India and Australia are two heavyweight cricketing nations who have developed a famous on-field rivalry over the past two decades. India has been one of the few cricketing teams who were successfully able to get under the skin of Australians. While Sourav Ganguly started the aggressive team phase, this team under Virat Kohli has taken aggression to an altogether different level. Kohli’s team aspires to play hard, play fair, and doesn’t mind giving back what it gets.

This feature of the team has helped them register memorable wins both home and away in the past few years. India’s historic test series win in Australia 2 years back was a shining example of this attitude. The Indian team battled hard and dominated the Aussies at their own game. It was the only time when India didn’t drop a single series across formats against Australia. The Indian team won both the Test and ODI series (2-1) while drew the T20I series 1-1. It was arguably India’s most successful overseas tour.

Australia are Looking Out For Revenge And Redemption

The Aussies have already started talking about redemption and how badly they want to win the series against India. All Aussie greats both past and present have expressed their opinion on Virat Kohli and how his missing from 3 test matches will affect India. Australia are always known to be a tough place to tour.

Since not just the Australian team, but their media contingent, as well as former players, tries their best to back their team. They are known to play mind games and expose the slightest ever weakness available. And with the addition of David Warner, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne, this Australian team sure looks lethal.

It won’t be easy for the visiting Indian team to stamp their authority this time too. While there is little to separate the two sides based on their limited-overs credential, India will surely feel the heat when it would come down to the test matches.

How difficult will be the test series?

To make matters more challenging India would be first facing the Aussies in a pink ball test match. India has just played 1 pink-ball Test match before this while the Aussies are quite adept at playing with the pink ball.  But to think of it that Virat Kohli will miss the rest of the Test matches following the pink-ball Test only adds to India’s cup of woes. He has by far been the standout Indian batsman in Test format for India in the past couple of years.
