‘We Thought Manish, Suryakumar Will Take The Lead’: Dhawan

Following sealing the ODI series versus Sri Lanka with a win in the 2nd game, India captain Shikhar Dhawan stated that the side believed Manish Pandey, as well as Suryakumar Yadav, will lead them to win. Here is Dhawan About Manish and Suryakumar.

Dhawan About Manish and Suryakumar

Suryakumar hit a brave 53 runs for the opponents, while Manish was dismissed for 37. Deepak Chahar, on the other hand, delivered one of the most spectacular innings in India’s dramatic victory over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Just after opponents were pushed to 193/7 in the second ODI, Chahar with(69) still standing on the crease to hit a magnificent fifty and established an unbroken 84-run partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 with not out) to drive India home.

“I felt that the wicket was much better and we restricted them to a good score. The spinners fought back and the bowlers adjusted their line and lengths when their batsmen were in. We didn’t start well and it is a good learning lesson for the youngsters that every day is not the same. They will understand how to handle these situations and how to bring in new strategies. The way Manish Pandey and Suryakumar were batting, we thought they would take us home,” Dhawan said after the match.

‘We knew that Chahar has worked hard in the nets on his batting’: Dhawan

“Hard luck to Pandey for the way he got out. The way Krunal fought in the middle was amazing. Everyone showed character. We knew that Chahar has worked hard in the nets on his batting. His presence of mind and calculations against the leg-spinners were amazing. Both Bhuvi and him calculated it really well.”

“I felt the way Sri Lanka planned their innings in both their batting and bowling was amazing. The way they batted and fielded was good to watch. They worked really hard, but glad that we are on the winning side. Every game is a learning lesson and we hope to analyze and get better. We want to put up a good show all the time,” he added.

Sri Lanka were on 194/6 within 40th over, striking first, before Charith Asalanka rescued the hosts’ innings. Sri Lanka pushed the score with Asalanka’s constantly fighting fifty, as the hosts scored 244 before he could be dismissed. Having lost 2- wickets in the final 6- deliveries, Sri Lanka managed 23 runs in the final  2-overs to reach 275.
