What Did AUS Team Learned On Losing 2nd ODI

Since a tough T20I series, the Australians were all happy in the 50-over format, as Alex Carey’s side beat the Windies 2-1 in the ODIs on Monday, securing third place on the Super League table.

The Australians came into the final facing great pressure after being thrashed in the 2nd ODI, with their side destroyed, but the Windies have been no answer for them from the day, as brilliant teamwork helped them hunt away 153 on a difficult track in only 30.3 overs to score a seven-wicket victory.

Bowlers Know Their Skills And Execute Them Well: Alex Carey

Captain Alex Carey said that his side had really learned from the failure of the 2nd match and reacted effectively in the decision-making process. He was very far away from his dismal performances in the 2nd ODI.

“It’s nice to represent the country and then captain it. Fantastic group effort. The bowlers did a great job. There were some good innings in the series. A bit ugly today but to get a score like that on that pitch, you have to be a bit ugly. We learned a lot from the other night and adapted. They (bowlers) know their skills and execute them well,” Carey said.

Carey was named the stand-in captain at the last moment, but he did an outstanding job not only on the field but also with batting, completing the series as the series’ highest scorer with 112 runs.

When questioned about his own efforts, though, the 29-year-old dismissed them, saying he was pleased to see joys return to his teammate’s faces after a difficult tour.

“We have been working really hard. (On being the top run-scorer in the series) I don’t really focus a lot on my game, it’s great to see a smile on the boy’s faces. Had a lot of support this series”.

“Personally and collectively, it’s exciting (to win a series). It’s tough leaving home in a pandemic. The commitment that these guys showed was great to see and getting a result in our favor was great. The T20s didn’t go our way but it’s nice to see some reward for our commitment. It’s nice to represent the country and then captain it. Fantastic group effort.”
