The Future of MS Dhoni with the Indian team has been the talk of the town ever since it was revealed that he will be taking a two-month sabbatical post the World Cup 2019. He was not included for the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh which led to further speculation regarding his retirement even as his break got over.

After India exited from the World Cup 2019, Dhoni hasn’t played a single match. He initially announced a two-month sabbatical to serve his Territorial Army unit in Kashmir which caused selectors to not consider him for the T20Is and ODI series against the West Indies away from home.

However, after Dhoni ended his break, the chief selector MSK Prasad said they were “moving on” and were grooming Rishabh Pant as the first-choice wicket-keeper with an eye on the future.

Prasad also went to the extent of saying that Dhoni is on board with their decision of backing young wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

Sourav Ganguly, discussing the contribution of Dhoni to Indian cricket, said, “champions don’t finish very quickly.”

The next limited-overs of series of India will be against West Indies who will be visiting the country for three T20Is and as many ODIs.
