Australia routed New Zealand on Monday to secure a 3-0 series sweep by 279 runs in the Sydney Test. Nathan Lyon finished the match with his second five-wicket haul.
In their first innings, Australia had scored 454, driven by a double-century maiden Test by Marnus Labuschagne. Despite the fifty battle of debutant Glenn Phillips, they were skittled out by a Lyon-inspired Australia for 256.
Then David Warner bagged his 24th-century Test as Australia declared 217/2. Lyon and Mitchell Starc had a positive result in taking away any expectations New Zealand had, as the visitors fell for a meek 136.
The victory for Australia, who won all five Tests they played, ensured a perfect home season.
Australia was unsurpassed this season, winning all five home Tests — two against Pakistan and three against New Zealand — after retaining the Ashes by drawing the 2-2 series in England.
