Waqar Younis Says Mohammad Amir And Wahab Riaz Betrayed Us:
Waqar Younis, bowling coach of Pakistan feels that the “easy money” on offer at growing T20 matches sometimes makes the players insensitive towards national goals.
He said that Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir’s last year decision to quit test cricket was this type of situation in which their personal interests concluded harmfully to the national team. Mohammad Amir’s decision of quitting at the age of 27 created very swirl.
On Monday (06-04-2020), in a press conference, Waqar discussed with a journalist “ These T20 matches provide easy money option to cricketers who can be stayed in comfort as the bowlers have to bowl only four overs.”
“ But sometimes, when thinking regarding their comfort zone cricketers don’t think how much harm they can do to the national goals. They can’t think about the future perspective,” he added.
Waqar Younis also criticized the two players for the way they declared their retirement decision.
He said “ If we know your retirement decision through social media, it really hurts. First, they should inform about this to the management or the board. It is really unacceptable that they did this thing because they know if they do this, we had to suffer a bit. But I wouldn’t say we have lost anything. If it is their decision, it is perfectly fine. We have no complaint against them. Still, I think both the players have cricket left in them.
He added “ They should continue playing white-ball cricket in case they are selected for the Pakistan team. Yes, they left the team in a tough situation at that time.”
He also noted that the chief selector and head coach of the Pakistan team, Misbah-ul-Haq has discussed a policy where the management or board is aware of the cricketers, who want to quit test cricket.
Waqar didn’t want to have any kind of communication gap between the board and players which led to this kind of situation.
