Virender Sehwag Is The Most Destructive Openers In Test History

VVS Laxman Praises Virender Sehwag:

Virender Sehwag was widely considered one of India’s best openers after the great Sunil Gavaskar, and responsible for the paradigm shift in the way that openers came to test cricket.

Sehwag transformed crickets’ interpretation of the concept of Test opener in the first over of the test match by handling the fast bowlers and shocked many people with his highest level of performance. The former Indian batsman and former teammate VVS Laxman praised India’s opener Sehwag on that very stage.

Laxman praised Sehwag on Friday after praising Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Javagal Srinath in his series of great cricketers with which he has played.

Laxman called Sehwag one of “the most destructive openers in Test history,” and praised the confidence and positivity of the cricketer of Delhi.

Sehwag Was The First Indian To Score A Triple Ton In Test Cricket:

“Cocking a snook at those who questioned his pedigree against high-quality fast bowling. Virender Sehwag went on to establish himself as one of the most destructive openers in Test history. Viru’s immense self-belief and positivity have as mind-boggling as it has infectious,” Laxman said in a tweet.

In 104 Tests, 251 ODIs, and 19 T20I, Sehwag represented India by scoring 8586, 8273, and 394 runs, respectively. He is the first Indian to achieve a three- centuries in test cricket in 2004. He reached this benchmark against Pakistan in Multan.

In the year 2008, in Chennai Stadium against South Africa, Sehwag went on to score another triple century.

Sehwag, in combination with Rahul Dravid, scored a phenomenal 254 on the journey to a 410 runs partnership during the Indian tour of Pakistan in 2006, which was nearly 50 years below the record of the highest first-hand stand set by Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy.

Together with Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag held the record in a test match to scoring the double hundreds in India until October last year before the present captain Virat Kohli pass it by scoring his 7th double century.

Sehwag was also the second batsman in the world to score an ODI double century after Sachin Tendulkar. In 2011, he was the only second player to double century in ODIs, and in fact, the highest score ever in ODIs, before India’s current opener Rohit Sharma finished in his 264 epics against Sri Lanka at the end of 2014.
