Kohli’s test future

Virat Kohli’s form once again became the talk of the town after the veteran failed to deliver on a few occasions during the ongoing test series against Bangladesh.

With a disappointing average of 26.50 in the most fundamental form of the game, Kohli had a forgettable year in Test cricket. In two Test matches against Bangladesh, he scored just 45 runs, and on Saturday, December 24, he was out for just one run in India’s second innings.

The third day of the second Test match against Bangladesh was a lacklustre one for Virat Kohli on the field. The former captain of India dropped three catches while fielding. He only managed to score one run with the bat before making the long trip back to the pavilion.

On the cusp of stumps, Kohli switched into a defensive posture and refrained from playing his shots. He then caught at the short leg as a result of his defensive strategy, though.

Virat Kohli to be out from India test team?

With form not on his side, the decision will be made in some time, whether he will play test cricket or not.

Virat Kohli’s average fell below 30 in the three years before that; from 2012 to 2019, he had an eight-year streak of averages of 40 or higher.

Virat Kohli hasn’t recorded a century in a Test match in more than three years. Many cricket experts anticipated that Virat would score big in the Test series after ending his international cricket century drought by scoring a first-ever tonne in T20I and another hundred in the ODI series against Bangladesh. However, Virat could not even score a fifty in this series.

Even, Kohli hasn’t reached the fifty-point mark in a Test match in ten innings, which is a record low for him in this format. In 2014, it had previously occurred in England, where his highest total was 39 in 10 innings.

Kohli failed to cross 200 mark in last 10 innings

Virat has played for India against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, England, and South Africa recently. Given his level of experience, one might expect him to score a fifty against at least one of these oppositions, but his highest score in his last 10 innings is only 45 with 186 runs.

However, there is a big home series coming up for India, as Australia is all set to tour India for a 4-match test series, starting February 09, and it will be tough call if they leave a big player like Kohli out from such a big series.

Shubman Gill, who is in excellent form, will have to make way for Rohit Sharma as he works to recover from his injury and return to the Test team as an opener. It is acceptable to remove a batsman who is in top form from the team in favour of keeping a player who is out of touch.
