Virat Kohli’s Astute DRS Call Gives Jasprit Bumrah Maiden Test Hat-Trick vs West Indies

During the second day of the second Test of ongoing India’s tour of West Indies in Antigua, India captain Virat Kohli was seen opting for an astute DRS call which ended up working for his team and most importantly fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the ninth over when Bumrah’s in-swinging delivery hit West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase on his pads. With the umpire remaining unperturbed by the loud appeal by the Indian players, Kohli immediately called for the DRS without consulting anyone else.

With Bumrah signaling a played ball, it seemed as if Kohli has wasted a review. However, in what was a case of pad-bat, replays confirmed that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps.

Bumrah, who was on a hat-trick, ended up becoming the third Indian bowler to grab a hat-trick in Test matches. Had Kohli not went with his gut feeling, the Indian fast bowler might have missed a chance of entering the record books.

In what was Bumrah’s fourth over, his figures of 4-1-4-4 spoke highly of the manner in which he deceived the opposition batsman with the new ball.
