Virat Kohli Surpasses His Co-Player, Rohit Sharma in T20I Elite List

Virat Kohli has a number of outstanding records under his belt when it comes to the shortest format of a cricket match and the Team India cricket skipper added another one to his achievement in the list during the first T20I match encounter against West Indies teams in Hyderabad on Friday. Kohli scored 94 off just 50 deliveries to register his 23rd half-century score – a record in T20Is as he surpassed his vice-captain Rohit Sharma in the list. It was a special faceoff from the India skipper as he suppressed the Windies bowlers and thanks to his innings, the team was able to chase down a target score of 208.

Kohli’s Marvelous Performance In The First T20I Match Series Against Windies:

The match was also enough to grab his achievement him as Man of the Match award at the end of the match and as a result, he now has 12 MOMs to his name a record along with Afghanistan’s cricketer, Mohammad Nabi.

Kohli’s highest T20 score was anchored after his chase of the 208-run target with eight balls to spare. The skipper has played six fours and another six sixes as his 35-ball half-century led India to 209-4 in 18.4 overs. It was the highest T20 total runs made by team India, going into the past the team India scored 207 versus Sri Lanka at Mohali in 2009.

Kohli stated that “I didn’t want to put any kind of pressure on Rahul but I could not get going on things properly. I don’t have to change much in my batting all across the formats. I just want to concentrate on doing the job instead of hitting the ball in the air. I played according to the situation in the second half of my innings.”

It was the 23rd time he made his half-century in T20I cricket, the most by any batsman has achieved. The West Indies scored 207-5 after it was sent in to bat.  The West Indies batsman, Shimron Hetmyer (56) scored his maiden T20I half-century.
