Vengsarkar Feels Indian Batsmen Needs Immediate Help From Rahul Dravid For Upcoming Tests

On Saturday, India was bowled out for 36 runs by the Australians, their lowest ever total. No batsmen managed to get the double-digit score, that’s the scar Indian fans will have for a long period of time. Jose Hazelwood and Pat Cummins were lethal with the bowl where Indian batsmen had no idea how to defend their deliveries.

Later, Australia managed to score 93 runs with ease and they finished it in just 23 overs. This allowed Australia to clinch a 1-0 lead in the four-match 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Indias looked very vulnerable in their defense throughout and Indian fans were seemingly missing the likes of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman seeing their batsman struggle in the Australian soil.

Vengsarkar Feels That Dravid’s Experience As Coach Can Help The Indian Team In Virat Kohli’s Absence

Former India batsman Dilip Vengsarkar has urged the BCCI to send Rahul Dravid to Australia on priority to help the Indian side deal with its batting woes. Vengsarkar feels Dravid’s experience as the coach can help the Indian team in Virat Kohli’s absence, who will be heading home on paternity leave to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

“The BCCI must rush Dravid to Australia to help the team. No one can guide the batsmen better on how to play the moving ball in those conditions. His presence will be a huge boost to the Indian team in the nets. In any case, the NCA has been shut due to Covid for the past nine months, leaving him with little to do,” Dileep Vengsarkar told Times of India on Saturday.

The Board can make better use of Dravid by utilizing his services to help the national team, which will be without skipper Virat Kohli from now (last three Tests).” Vengsarkar stressed that Dravid must be sent immediately as he would have to serve the 14-day quarantine and then join the team from the third Test.

“Even if he has to serve a mandatory two-week quarantine period, he should be available for helping the Indian team at the nets before the third Test in Sydney, which will begin from January 7,” Vengsarkar said. Dravid has been a mentor and coach to Prithvi Shaw, who is going through a torrid form while managing the India under-19 and India A side.

India will need some serious batting performance with some intent because the team will be without Virat Kohli, who managed to score 74 runs in the first innings. Ajinkya Rahane will be the captain for the upcoming three Tests.
