Twitter Calls Rohit Sharma’s Double Ton As A Gift To The Birthday Boy Virender Sehwag

India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma broke records with his double ton in the ongoing Third Test against South Africa. The Hit-man became the 5th Indian opener after Vinoo Mankad, Budhi Kunderan, Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag to score 500-plus in a Test series.

Earlier, Gavaskar had done so 5 times in his Test career and was followed by Sehwag who piled up 544 runs against Pakistan in a 3-Test series at home in 2005. And now, it was Rohit who brought up his first-ever Test double ton on Day 2 at the JSCA Stadium.

Rohit Sharma also became only the 4th batsman after Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Chris Gayle to score hundreds in both ODI and Test formats of the game.

Rohit walked out with a massive score of 212 in Ranchi on Sunday with 19 sixes. Rohit also holds the record for the most number of sixes hit in a Test series.

On day one of the Ranchi Test, South Africa started well with some quick wickets. Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for 10 in the fifth over by Kagiso Rabada and Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back as he was caught right in front of the stumps by Rabada. Anrich Nortje got his first Test wicket in Virat Kohli when a close LBW call went in favor of the visitors.

But, Rohit and Rahane stitched a partnership of 247 runs for the 4th wicket and made sure India was on track to complete their first-ever series whitewash over South Africa in Tests.

Rohit’s promotion to the top of the order in Tests has been a nice move by the Indian team management. Rohit cemented his place as a top test opener with a double hundred in the ongoing series.

Rohit, much like birthday boy Virender Sehwag, got to his double hundred with a massive six against Lungi Ngidi. Sehwag, who is celebrating his 41st birthday on Sunday, has scored two triple hundreds in his career.
