Tom Latham, the standing captain of New Zealand said that throughout partnerships of their run chase was helpful for them to win by four wickets on Wednesday against India in the first ODI in Hamilton.
In the ongoing tour after coming close to beat India on three occasions, finally, New Zealand has succeeded to cross the line take taste of win as in Seddeon park they defeated Men in Blue.
Ross Taylor, the champion of the season helped New Zealand to chase a score of 348 as he scored a brilliant century. Henry Nicholls who scored 78 and Latham on 69 has supported well to Ross Taylor as in the three-match series hosts took 1-0 lead.
” From the guys they got a great performance, to keep our composure at the end and get across the line it was nice,” Latham said.
“This has been about building partnerships for us. The total was a little bit more than we’d loved to chase. But we managed to start well and keep the wickets in hand,” he said.
” We saw how difficult it was to defend with the combination of left and right. It’s nice to make contributions to win.”
Latham Believes That Kiwis Were Not Good At All
Latham said that Kiwis were not good at the ball because they helped India to cross 347/4. But in the end, they have prevailed to spare with 11 shots. “The way Ross Taylor played was incredible. We weren’t quite where we want the ball to be. We weren’t quite where we expected the ball to be. And we got to improve and ideally at Eden Park we will be playing the perfect game,” Latham added.
Meanwhile, centurion Ross Taylor said the combination of left-right hands helped New Zealand chase their win, and he also thought that keeping India below 350 would give them a chance.
In the last three T20Is, Taylor was at the wrong end of defeats, as India won the series 5-0. New Zealand came close but all three times blew the game away. Most specifically, Taylor was at the crease but did not take home the squad.
The experienced batsman lifted his 21st hundred in style on Wednesday and did not remain out on 109 to carry his team over the line.
