Tim Southee started playing cricket at the early age of 8 years. He attended Whangarei Boys School in Auckland and then attended King’s College in Auckland. Since his early days, Southee has interest in rugby and cricket. Tim Southee has represented Auckland Secondary School’s rugby team. He played cricket for his school and ever since his beginning, he was known for his late swinging ability.

Tim Southee started off his domestic career by playing for Northern Districts in 2006. In the same year, Southee was picked up in the Under-19 team of New Zealand. At the age of 17 years, Tim Southee was picked up in the Under-19 squad for ICC Under-19 World Cup. He picked 5 wickets in the tournament and

also scored 113 runs. Southee was picked up for the youth test series against India in 2007.

In 2008, Tim Southee was selected in ICC Under-19 World cup. Southee picked 17 wickets in the tournament including a 5-wicket haul.

Tim Southee made a sensational entry in the International arena. Tim Southee made his international debut against England in a T20I match on 5th February 2008. In 2 match series, Southee picked 3 wickets.

After T20I series, Tim Southee went back to play Under-19 World Cup. After the World Cup, he returned back in the national squad for the Test series. Tim Southee made his test debut in March 2008 against England. On his debut, Southee picked a five-wicket haul and also smashed the fastest half century for New Zealand in Test cricket.
