‘They Said If I Were Any Good, I Would Be In India’- Liam Livingstone Mocked By The Crowd At SCG

Liam Livingstone was involved in crowd banter with spectators at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This incident happened during the final match of the 10th season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers. Scorchers’ skipper Ashton Turner won the toss and invited Sydney in to bat. The home team scored 188/6 in 20 overs on the back of opening batsman James Vince’s second consecutive half-century.

Liam Livingstone Involved In-Crowd Banter In BBL

In between the match, Livingstone was mixed up whilst fielding near the boundary. He revealed the same in a conversation to the commentators. It all started after he was asked about the pitch by the commentators. “I’ve spent my whole time on the boundary so I haven’t spoken to anyone,” Livingstone told Fox Cricket commentators.

Being asked about if he’s had any conversation with the spectators, Livingstone revealed being at the receiving end of crowd banter. “I was told if I was any good I’d be in India [for England’s tour of India], which is a fair point,” a smiling Livingstone said taking the comment in a light way.

The SCG spectators were ridiculing the English batsman as England’s team was touring India. Livingstone, who played two T20Is for England in 2017, was left out of the English squad. Ironically, even James Vince, who hasn’t been called back by the ECB since the last T20I in 2019, continued to win the Sixers final in front of the team’s home crowd. The same crowd that beat Livingstone on the same day.

The two teams had earlier faced off in the qualifier of the ongoing edition of the BBL, which had a controversial finish. Sixers’ batsman James Vince needed 2 runs for his century with the team a run away from victory, when Andrew Tye bowled a short ball down the leg which was signaled a wide. Sydney crowd clearly didn’t really liked this slyness.

Perth Scorchers started well with Livingstone scoring 45 runs but the lower order crumbled under pressure. The Perth Scorchers opener was even dropped by Steven O’Keefe, when the batsman was on 1 off 2, in the 2nd over of the chase. they can’t finish it in their favour where they lost the match by 27 runs and Sydney Sixers went onto win their 3rd BBL Trophy.
