Which Players Team India Is Going To Rest For NZ Series
Whereas the team for the 3 T20Is before the Test series has already been named, the team for the same is expected to be revealed within the next few days. The national selectors applied the same strategy while selecting the T20I team, which omitted several first-choice players, including Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, among others.
Rishabh Pant, who has been picked for the T20Is, would almost certainly be rested for both Tests, while Wriddhiman Saha is the favorite to take the gloves. India captain Virat Kohli is also expected to miss the opening Test in Kanpur. However, Rohit has been picked to captain the T20I series, after Kohli’s announcement that he will no longer lead the shortest version following the completion of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Players are getting a break depending on when they exit the existing bubble
Despite Kohli being expected to remain in the longest format, if he wants to quit the Kanpur Test, the selectors would be faced with the added burden of appointing a stand-in captain. According to the reports, the Indian selectors are “torn between Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane as the stand-in Test captain.”
Furthermore, it has been reported that the BCCI has provided all players a two-day rest well before the T20I series begins.
“The players who have been in UAE for the T20 World Cup and the ones who were playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament have all been allowed to go home to be with their families. The players are getting a break of two or three days depending on when they exit the existing bubble. There will be three-day quarantine. The move also comes with the tour of South Africa in mind. Some players, once in the Jaipur bubble, may have to stay in it for another three months,” the reports claim.
